Numerous prizes for renewable energy achievement and innovation are awarded each year to cities.  

Best Environmental Practice in Baltic Cities Award

This award is given out every other year by the Union of the Baltic Cities (UBC) to member cities who use innovative ways to develop sustainably.  The 2007 winner was Växjö, Sweden, and the 2009 winner was Umea, Sweden.   Click here to visit the website.


European Energy Award

The European Energy Award® is a way for communities to review and manage their energy systems.  Members then have the means to assess their potential for improvement of energy efficiency. The European Energy Award® (eea®) is awarded to members who make significant achievements in energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy. Member cities share their experiences and expertise. European Green Capital Award

The year 2010 marks the beginning of the annual distribution of European Green Capital awards, with one city being named capital for each calendar year.  Cities with a proven environmental track record, ambitious sustainability goals and who act as role models to other cities are eligible to apply. 
Stockholm has been named the capital for 2010 and Hamburg for 2011.  Cities are invited to submit their applications for the 2012 and 2013 competitions.  Click here to read more about this new award.  


EUROSOLAR European Solar Prize

This annual award, given out since 1994, is given to cities, municipalities, organizations and even individuals which have furthered the use of renewable energy.  The aim of the award is to strengthen public interest and awareness in renewable energy.  Click here to access information about past winners as well as learn how to enter this year's competition.
